Day One - Virginia Beach, Norfolk and the Chesapeake Bay

Meet your Phillips Tours guide at your hotel to begin your journey along the Colonial Trails of Virginia and watch as history comes alive!

Begin your day with a stop at the First Landing Cross to see the site where the English settlers landed in the New World on April 26, 1607, before they journeyed from the Chesapeake Bay up the James River to establish Jamestown Settlement.

Visit the Old Cape Henry Lighthouse and Museum, located on a bluff overlooking the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, built in 1792, and located on the same site where the original colonists used to burn bonfires to guide their ships into the Hampton Roads Harbor.

Tour the Adam Thoroughgood House and Gardens, built circa 1680 on the Lynnhaven River, the home is reminiscent of English cottage architecture. Costumed interpreters will give guests a view of the lifestyle of a wealthy Virginia colonist.

Luncheon Harbor Cruise - Enjoy a narrated sightseeing tour of the historic Hampton Roads Harbor. Sail the same waters that the colonists explored 400 years ago. See historic Fort Norfolk, erected in 1794, view the Norfolk International Terminals and Naval Station Norfolk, the largest naval installation in the world.

Following your cruise, visit the Moses Myers House, built in 1792 by Norfolk’s first Jewish family. This beautiful Federal style home retains over 70% of the original furnishings and has been recently restored to reflect the original paint colors and reveal elegant architectural elements which had previously been hidden.

Nearby, on the grounds of St. Paul’s church, see tombstones dating back to the early 1600’s and a cannonball still embedded in the wall of the church from the bombardment by the British on New Year’s Day, 1776.

Drive through the Historic Freemason district - see homes dating from the 1700’s and cobblestone paved streets. View the beautiful homes along the picturesque Hague inlet in historic Ghent.

Refreshments will be provided for your group at the beautiful and unique Taiwanese Pagoda, located in the heart of the historic district and facing the beautiful Hampton Roads Harbor.

Return to your hotel to prepare for this evenings dinner at Freemason Abbey, a local’s favorite. This charming restaurant is housed in an elegantly restored turn of the century church, and features outstanding ambiance and delicious food!

Day Two - Jamestown and Yorktown

Depart your hotel with your Phillips Tours guide for Virginia’s Historic Triangle. Today you will visit two of the most historic sites in our country, Jamestown and Yorktown and experience firsthand the significance of these two important sites.

Jamestown Settlement - A museum of 17th century America, Jamestown Settlement offers a unique blend of indoor gallery exhibits and outdoor living history to tell the fascinating story of the original inhabitants who settled here in 1607. See the replicas of the three ships that brought the settlers across the Atlantic Ocean, the re-created James Fort as well as the village of the Powhatan Indians. Learn about the different cultures of the Europeans, Powhatans and Africans - all who helped to shape the future of our country.

Enjoy lunch on your own at the Jamestown Settlement Café

Visit Yorktown Victory Center, a museum of the American Revolution which chronicles America’s struggle for independence. Features here include exhibits which highlight experiences of the everyday colonist, as well as a re-created Continental Army encampment.

Enjoy a visit to the Yorktown Battlefield, site of the last major battle of the American Revolutionary War. See the introductory film, and enjoy the view from the Rooftop Overlook. Drive by Surrender Field and see the battlefields.

Enjoy a driving tour through the charming town of Yorktown, and free time to explore the quaint shops along the brand new Riverwalk Landing.

Dinner tonight will be at the historic Boxwood Inn, and will feature an Olde Virginia Plantation themed “Dinnertainment”

Day Three - Colonial Williamsburg and Dinner in Colonial Tavern

Your Phillips Tours guide, licensed by Colonial Williamsburg, will escort you through the streets and buildings of this charming 18 th century living museum.

Experience life in Colonial Williamsburg. Your admission ticket will provide entry into all of the exhibition buildings, including the Governor’s Palace and the Capitol, and your historical interpreter will give you a guided overview of the area, leaving plenty of free time for you to explore independently.

Lunch will be on your own in Merchants Square, with plenty of free time for shopping in the unique specialty shops.

Enjoy an early dinner at one of the Colonial Williamsburg Taverns prior to returning to your hotel.
