New World Discoveries in Hampton, Virginia

Four Days, Three Nights

When they arrived in 1607, Captain John Smith and crew discovered a point of land, later to become Hampton, brought them "good comfort." Here they were made welcome by the Kecoughtan Indians and feasted on berries, wild game and bread made of maize. In commemoration of the first settlers' landing, come discover present-day Hampton, Virginia. Four hundreds years later, you'll still find the natives hospitable and eager to share our captivating history.

Day One

Afternoon
Begin your visit at the Hampton History Museum and learn about the arrival of the Virginia Company and its encounter with the Kecoughtan Indians in the New World. Visit historic St. John’s Church, the oldest continuous, English-speaking parish in the United States. Be “captivated” by costumed Pirates during a walking tour and learn of Hampton’s role in the shipment of goods between England and the New World.
Dinner in one of the lakeside restaurants at the Power Plant of Hampton Roads.

Day Two

Tour Jamestown Settlement. Explore the world of 1607, when 104 men set anchor in Virginia and began to build America’s first English permanent colony. Visit a Powhatan Indian village and replicas of the settlers’ three ships and fort. Lunch on own at the Jamestown Settlement Café and shopping at The Jamestown Settlement Gift Shop for unique books, reproductions, souvenirs and other items.Visit Historic Jamestowne. See the archaeology and artifacts of the original site and learn about the politics, government and societies of early Virginia.
Enjoy dinner at the Grate Steak where you have the choice of cooking your own steak over a hot charcoal grill.

Day Three

Board the Miss Hampton II for a harbor tour. View the world’s largest Naval Base and set foot on Fort Wool, an island fortress. Include a box lunch on your sail.Return to Downtown Hampton Public Pier. Tour Fort Monroe and the Casemate Museum located in the walls of the largest stone fort in the United States. Visit the Chapel of the Centurion and see Louis Comfort Tiffany stained glass windows. Next stop is the Hampton University Museum. Founded in 1868, it is one of our nation’s most outstanding multicultural museums.
Dinner at Victorian Station. Enjoy home-cooked entrees in a nostalgic country store setting. Enjoy a theatrical performance or concert at The American Theatre, a restored 1908 performing arts theatre.

Day Four

Check out of your Hampton hotel

Have a “New World” experience by discovering the history and future of space exploration at the Virginia Air & Space Center. Prepare to be amazed by a 3-D IMAX® film in the Virginia Air & Space Center’s five-story Riverside Theater. Go for a spin on the 1920 Hampton Carousel and enjoy shopping and an early lunch on own before departing for home.
