Whether you want to go back in history 400 years to the birthplace of our nation or fast forward to the latest in high-tech amusements, Virginia’s Historic Triangle of Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown, is a great year-round vacation destination with an outstanding variety of attractions, entertainment, shopping, dining and outdoor recreation.
Day One
Welcome to Virginia’s Historic Triangle! Visit Colonial Williamsburg where merchants sell their wares, craftspeople ply their trades, and brave patriots whisper plans for revolution. The country’s largest living history museum boasts 301 acres with more than 500 restored and reconstructed buildings.
Follow the Fifes and Drums down Duke of Gloucester Street to one of the colonial taverns, and have a traditional 18th-century dinner.
Attend a Colonial Williamsburg evening program such as “Cry Witch” at the Capitol.
Day Two
Spend a full day of unparalleled excitement at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, a European-themed adventure park voted the world’s “Most Beautiful Theme Park” for the last 14 consecutive years with more than 50 thrilling rides and 10 main stage productions. Enjoy authentic European cuisine and some of the best shopping on any continent.
Day Three
Breakfast in your hotel.
Visit Historic Jamestowne, the first permanent English settlement in North America. Join a National Park Service Ranger for a tour of the original townsite and observe archaeologists as they search for answers to our country’s past.
Visit Jamestown Settlement where you can climb aboard replicas of the three ships that brought the first 104 men and boys to Virginia. Join us now and in 2007 as we commemorate the birthplace of our nation. An 18-month-long slate of events, beginning fall 2006 and extending until spring 2008, will mark this historic anniversary.
Enjoy lunch at the Gabriel Archer Tavern and a guided tour at the Williamsburg Winery, Virginia’s largest producing winery.
This afternoon, plan to shop ‘til you drop at the Williamsburg Pottery Factory, Prime Outlets of Williamsburg, and the Williamsburg Candle Factory, just to name a few.
For a change of pace, spend the evening at Go-Kart’s Plus and enjoy 18 holes of miniature golf, arcade boats and four go-kart tracks. Relax with a picnic dinner.
Day Four
Breakfast in your hotel.
Arrive at Yorktown Battlefield and Visitors Center and see where Americans achieved their independence when Lord Cornwallis surrendered to General George Washington on October 19, 1781 during the climactic battle of the American Revolutionary War.
Arrive at the Yorktown Victory Center and learn about America’s struggle for independence. Historical interpreters depict the daily life of people during the Revolution in outdoor re-creations that include a military encampment and 1780s farm site.
Enjoy lunch at Yorktown’s Riverwalk Landing and explore this charming and historical waterfront village.
Arrive at Presidents Park which features 18- to 20-foot busts of all 43 United States Presidents in a relaxed garden setting.
Enjoy the remainder of the day at Water Country USA, the Mid Atlantic’s largest water play park featuring a 1950s and 60s surf-theme. There are a variety of eateries and shopping opportunities.
Day Five
Depart for home.
