In 1607, the Virginia Company arrived in Virginia to establish the first permanent English colony in North America at Jamestown.
Ships land at Jamestown. Three hundred ninety-seven years later one of America’s most distinguished filmmakers returned to the Jamestown area to shoot The New World, recreating that time and place with such care, historical accuracy and attention to detail, that it is almost like being transported back in time to that long-ago world.

The New World is a sweeping adventure set amidst the first encounter of European and Native American cultures during the founding of the Jamestown, Virginia settlement in 1607.
Christian Bale stars as John Rolfe. Acclaimed filmmaker Terrence Malick brings to life his own unique interpretation of the classic tale of Pocahontas and her relationships with adventurer John Smith and aristocrat John Rolfe. This woman’s remarkable journey of love lost and found takes her from the untouched beauty of the Virginia wilderness to the upper crust of English society as we witness the dawn of a new America. The New World will open in theatres this winter.
